"I met Dr. Kartman for the first time in 1998, when I auditioned for Northwestern. He opened the door for me to a first-class training experience, many wonderful musical opportunities, strong friendships, and a life-long professional career in music.
I have learned so much from Dr. Kartman through my violin lessons, the chamber coachings, observing masterclasses, and also by simply being around and listening. His extensive knowledge of the violin technique and repertoire, his ability to pinpoint the technical and musical elements that need work, his dedication to his pupils, his love for chamber music, his attention to details and his high standards have helped shape the violinist and the teacher that I am now. I have a thought for Dr. Kartman every day that I am teaching or playing." |

"Myron is not just a great teacher he is a human being of real depth and breadth. He taught me for 4 years at college in the 1980s and he set me on the path to being a top professional violinist. I know I wouldn't be playing in the London Symphony Orchestra if it weren't for his teaching. But Myron also kept me grounded, reminding me always that I am a human being first and a violinist second. I'm glad he is still dedicating his working life to teaching."

"Dr. Myron Kartman is a teacher suffuse with decades of experience in the studios of master pedagogues as well as decades of experience as a concertizing soloist and chamber musician. His teaching style is personal and specific. Rather than submitting students to a preconceived regimen of exercises and anecdotal advice, Dr. Kartman sees and hears each student's strengths and weaknesses and imparts the necessary tools for understanding and mastery in each case. Theoretical comprehension, artistic sensitivity, and clarity of musical aesthetic are always in the foreground of his teaching while the student works to build a technique that serves these masters... never the other way around. I consider Dr. Kartman to be my greatest teacher. He gave me the building blocks to create my own methods of self discovery and self actualization, along with a life's worth of inspiration."

"Myron is one of those teachers/mentors whose influence still affects me long beyond the period I spent studying with him. I still hear his voice when I practice. I not only learned much about the violin with him, but also learned to think in an organized way about how to become a better violinist. His ideas about chamber music, and how to work and achieve excellent results in a string quartet, still have a profound influence on me and my approach to music to this day."

"Dr. Kartman was my violin professor for my entire undergraduate career at Northwestern, from 1984-1988. There are many aspects of his teaching that I have come to appreciate more since becoming a professional musician and teacher myself. There was no single 'method' that he imposed on his students, either in the repertoire they worked on or the way that repertoire was performed. I appreciated that personalized approach at the time, and I appreciate now that I was allowed to develop as my own artist. His master classes were always enlightening, showing in the space of an hour or 90 minutes how creative he could be in imparting ideas to students of differing abilities, temperaments and approaches.I have taught privately and at two universities in the years since I graduated, and I frequently find myself quoting Dr. Kartman to my students, 25 or more years after I received his wisdom. That is the legacy of a great teacher, and I am honored and grateful to have had the experience of working with him."

"Words cannot sufficiently express my overwhelming feelings towards Dr. Kartman. I consider Dr. Kartman to be the most important influence of my musical career. He did not just teach me how to play violin; he taught me how to make music.
When I was seven years old, straight out of Suzuki training, he took me under his wing and has been my guide and mentor ever since. He taught me basic fundamental violin techniques. He also taught me how to work and perform with other people in chamber and ensemble settings. Most importantly, he taught me how to perform music with heart. I believe that the most moving music comes from the sincerest of souls. Dr. Kartman’s guidance and direction have made me strive to be the best musician and the best human I can be. I am forever indebted to him for everything he has given me. I would not be where I am, or be the kind of person I am today, were it not for his generosity, patience, and wisdom." |
